Norrel Robertson MW

Master of Wine Norrel Robertson, The Flying Scotsman, chose Catalayud as his place of residence in 2003 to tend to his winemaking commitments in Spain and the south of France, eventually starting up his own project focusing on old Garnacha grapes. 

This flying winemaker believes that nowhere else in the world is there such a wealth and diversity of Garnacha vines, and the Aragon region, where he works, offers an endless array of soils, altitudes and sun exposures.

 Since he moved to Spain in 2003, he has not stopped making successful wines under his company’s name ‘El Escocés Volante’. He currently owns 20 hectares of vineyards in the Zaragoza region, in addition to several projects in Murcia, Valencia and Galicia. He sells his wines in more than 20 countries and he acts as a consultant to several wineries in Spain, Chile and South Africa. 

In the last 25 years, Norrel has engaged in a wide spectrum of activities in the industry, from trading to product development. Passionate about wine research and production, he’s worked at different wineries around the world. In 2000, he was named Master of Wine and in 2002-2003 he earned a postgraduate degree in viticulture and oenology from the prestigious Lincoln University in Christchurch (New Zealand).
